My Dentures Fell Out!

I’m at a dinner with my girlfriends. We’re talking and having a great time and my dentures slip out onto my plate. I was absolutely mortified. What can I do to keep that from happening again?

Sylvia P. – Morganville, WI

Sylvia,

What a difficult experience that was for you. It is not uncommon for dentures to slip and fall out. Your lower dentures just sit on the ridge of your jawbone. Unfortunately, the longer you wear dentures, the more your jawbone shrinks. That gives less stability for your dentures.

The ideal treatment would be to get dental implants. If you’ve lost too much bone structure, you might need some bone grafting. If the implants are out of your budget, you could get mini implants. They will at least help stabalize your dentures and assure they don’t fall out again.
