My Snap On Smile Melted

I had my snap on smile on the table and my yorkipoo got it. I was looking for it and saw her chewing on it. When I took the snap on smile from her, it looked okay but I knew I needed to really clean it. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t do this, but because the dog had it, I put it in boiling water and forgot about it. The water boiled out and the left side of the snap on smile melted. Is this something that can be reshaped, or will I have to get a new one? Also, I’ve only had it 8 months, so is it still under warranty? – Lynn

Lynn – A Snap-On Smile, custom-molded and made of dental resin, can melt at high temperatures. Care must be taken in cleaning it to avoid dulling its appearance or damaging it.

If you need to disinfect your Snap-On Smile, a disinfectant specifically designed for oral appliances should be used. These solutions are strong enough to kill germs, but gentle enough so they won’t harm your appliance.

The one-year manufacturer’s warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship, but not damaged caused by the consumer. A partially melted appliance will need to be replaced. Call your dentist’s office to report the damage and request a replacement. If you want to find out your options for long-term cosmetic treatment to enhance your smile, an experienced cosmetic dentist can help.
