You’ve just broken your tooth. Your tongue goes right to it, confirming the feel of its sharp, jagged edges. It feels horrible, but surprisingly doesn’t hurt. You run to the mirror, lifting the corners of your mouth in a reluctant, somewhat horrified smile. It’s visibly broken. Everyone will notice. You call us for an appointment immediately. Of course it’s an emergency!
Oh no! Not the front one!!
We’ll walk you through your options for replacement and put your mind (and tooth) at ease. No two fractures are the same. Tiny chips can often be repaired by bonding, using a white filling. However, if an entire cusp, or large chunk is broken off, it will more than likely require a crown. We can accomplish this in one visit with CEREC crowns.
Yes. Same day crowns are convenient and quick, but this does not mean they lack in quality. CEREC crowns are made of durable, stain-resistant porcelain. They’re metal-free, biocompatible, and last just as long as other crowns (anywhere from 7-20 years!). Although, as with any material, it’s important to take proper care to minimize daily wear and tear.
1.) Don’t bite down on hard food, candy, or ice —crowns can fracture, just like natural teeth!
2.) Make sure to brush & floss 2x daily —cavities can develop around crown margins, so it’s important to brush & floss around the gumline.
3.) Schedule routine cleaning and exams —so we can catch small issues before they become big ones!
4.) Use a non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste & soft toothbrush —to help prevent microscopic scratches on the surface of the porcelain.
Good home care is so important!
